Growth Mindset

Growth mindset is the belief that you can contribute to your abilities and skills through a process. If you follow a process and contribute your time to improve you skills, you will see improvement over time. In an interview with Carol Dweck, she said that ”In growth mindset students understand that their talents and abilities can be developed through effort, good teaching, and persistence”. What that means is that students with a growth mindset understand that they can improve their skills and abilities by contributing their time and patience to follow a process that will show improvement.
Something as simple as a sculpture can take weeks, months, or even years to make. One starts off making small balls that look like nothing, but in the process people improve. At the end of the road, your result is a beautiful cat sculpture. Growth mindset is when one believes they can improve their skills. Your effort contributes to your expertise. This artifact shows how one can improve if they put enough thought into their task.
This project was a little difficult to do because there were minor complications of who does what and how complicated it should be. But we were able to come a compromise. I learnt that you should look for ways to gradually improve, don’t believe that fixed mindset is a terrible thing just because it has many negative things about it. Also, I discovered that I get on more of an aggressive member if things don’t turn out the way it was anticipated and pushing myself to do it over. I already know I get really into reading about the topic I choose but I end up reading a lot of unnecessary things that I can’t put into my paragraphs. Critical thinking showed me how to look at things in a different perspective, get into more detail of the topic and get me to think more.

F.I.N.D Reflection

One fact about "The Crucible" was that it was written during the Red Scare, which was a widespread fear of Communism in America, with people assuming and attacking others of being communists- much like the Salem witch trials. While learning about "The Crucible," I felt intrigued to learn more on the science behind mass hysteria and scapegoating. As I read "The Crucible," I discovered that mass hysteria can spread like wildfire if the people have similar mindsets. With the new information I have gained after reading and learning about "The Crucible," I will interpret situations of scapegoating, mass hysteria, and false confessions more closely to help others who do not know much about these.
October Reflection
I have reach my academic goal of receiving at least a 90% on my next project. I haven't read much physical books, but more of works found online. I still have not participated in general class discussion, but I really enjoy participating in academic discourse. I am still working on being able to present confidently and reading out loud clearly without any verbal mistakes. But I can argue and explain quotes and ideas among the students. I feel like I am a strong writer within argumentative, informative, and creative writing. I still have trouble with creating a smooth transition between paragraphs and creating a good hook. But adding context to the quotes are fairly easy for me. I want to work on participating in a general class discussion because I have never exactly been able to word my ideas and add on to what the teacher says and not many participate in their discussion so it kinda feels awkward to just sit there and be quiet.
Freedom and Conflict

Conflicts can cause harm and destruction but it can open up a road to peace and freedom. While freedom may sound like an all good thing, from allowing people to do what they want and not be so powerless against authority, too much freedom to can create chaos and conflicts. These two concepts are in a paradoxical relationship, as one idea that is thought to be all good and the other is the complete opposite, but both ideas lean on each other. In order to have any sort of freedom, there must be conflict. For example, before the 13 colonies even thought of being free from Great Britain's rule, there were a series of conflicts that had occurred (taxes, stamp act, etc). America had also gone through conflicts with Britain when they wanted freedom, which was war. Freedom and conflict are not total opposites, but rather the result or the process of the each other.
Does it Mean to be American? What is the American Dream?

“The American dream” is receiving equal opportunities to achieve success, living in a place where you feel safe, happy, and content. The American dream is also leaving your mark on the advancement of society, achieving your dreams and goals through hard work and diligence. To be an American, you give everyone equal rights and treatment. Everyone has the same rights and should have the same opportunities to achieve success. Being American also means giving your own contribution to the country- whether it’s helping out communities in need, work towards the advancements of science, or help inspire people. Being an American also means to work for what you want- no matter what your social status is. It doesn’t matter where you’re from, if you can project yourself to the world and show what you’re worth, and gaining success from it, you are living the American dream.
Still I Shine
You may call me out
With your hateful words.
You may shove me in the dark, cold room
But, like a firefly
I’ll shine
Do I anger you?
When I beam with individuality?
When I show my interest of the sex I am,
Will it cause chaos to your life?
You say it’s against God’s words.
You say it should never be discussed with children.
You say I’ll make society worse.
But, is it really?
Will the children be scarred for life?
Will I really make society worse?
Or is it actually you?
You may shoot me down with your beliefs.
You may cut my tongue off,
To prevent sinful words from escaping.
You may execute me with your disgust.
You may lock me up in a dark, cold cell,
So you can put your fear at ease.
But I will escape.
I will emerge from the darkness
You try so hard to hide me in.
I’ll dance to my heart’s content
Put my nation’s history to shame
I’ll shine
To spite you and your hate
I’ll shine
To celebrate my freedom
As storms of your hatred try to blow me away
I’ll shine brighter than the sun
Chasing you and your stigma away
I’ll shine brighter than diamonds
I’ll shine more magnificently than gold
I’ll shine
I’ll shine
I’ll shine
With your hateful words.
You may shove me in the dark, cold room
But, like a firefly
I’ll shine
Do I anger you?
